Day Ten

Working on the top section and trying to figure out what to do with the kids at the bottom. Those pesty kids!

On the way on I saw one of the Osprey's that had a nest on top of one of the cranes at Mare Island. Very big bird and cool that they're nearby; about a quarter mile from the studio.

Day Eight

Got in at 7:30 a.m. today and was able to get a few things done before having to leave at 9.

First thing...crank up the music. Since time was an issue I did minimal layering, but chose to seal everything so it would be ready to go to the next layer when I come in this evening.

Took this shot of the mess in the studio. Heather said it was approaching Francis Bacon clutter. Here's a shot of the painting to date. Was able to jot down a few ideas while getting coffee for the next time I'm in. Stay tuned.

Day Seven

Spent the day running around Berkeley, but managed to talk Heather into going to Dick Blick's for some medium and I don't mean a clairvoyant. Still building up the layers. Next...fix the heads on those darn kids! They're angry mindless blobs of dysfunction, the perfect flagellants.

Here's a shot from the doorway into my studio at night (10 p.m.). Pretty creepy out there on Mare Island. When the compressor kicks on it scares the hell outta you!

Day Six

Ready to add some color to the kids beating on the chain guy.

Day Five

More work on the background. Added the under paintings for the kids and dirtied up the chained guy. Time to drag out the ladder to deal with the top and upper right.

Coco Time!

Pirate Festival in Vallejo

Last weekend Vallejo hosted for the second year in a row, the NorCal Pirate Festival. If you haven't gone, go! It's well worth it and great people watching as alot of folks are dressed up as pirates or well endowed damsels. Some people should have been made to walk the plank for pirate fashion violations! YIKES!

The event is free, but who knows what will happen next year. I'm thinking we should host a rum tasting then head to the festival. Dress up and bring your booty!

Day Three!

The 3rd day and one hour to paint tonight so I'm still plugging away at the background and the under painting on the chained up guy. I've decided to do a day by day account so I'll know how long this actually took me. Never done that before.

Here's the pics.

Day Two - Body Building

Went into the studio after putting Coco to sleep and worked on the chained up guy. Still working on the under painting in areas, but it's coming along.

Day One - The Ark Update!

I started the big one (10' x 8') and have taken quite a few photos of it's progress including some video to do a short doc. Look for that in the future. The main image like the Bandwagon are taken from a book about Chinese comics. The progress, shown here, took place on Sunday, Father's Day, when I started it. I also started a couple smaller pieces. So far I think it's moving along very well. For me, the next issue is resolving the background. Stay tuned!

Off the Grid Reception in Sac

The reception for Off the Grid was last Saturday and a lot of fun. It was good to see friends I hadn't seen in a while.

Fortunately it wasn't too hot. Lauren Ari one of the three artists in the show was there. Lauren lives in Richmond with her husband and 2 year old daughter. Andries Fourie lives in Oregon. Too far to make it!

Lauren and I had a great chat and we hope to visit her studio soon. Can anyone say trade! Here are some shots of the installation from last Friday.

SF with the Kids

This weekend Willie and I went to San Francisco to pick up some paintings at Micaela Gallery on Hayes. Heather ended up coming in another car with Jaz so we had a fun family day in SF goofing off.

Here are some pictures I took of the kids jumping over a safety cone. Cheap entertainment. I also saw a tree with something that looked like a hand flipping the bird so I asked Willie to do one next to it to demonstrate the comparison.

Second Saturday Reception

This weekend, June 14th, I'll be in a three person exhibit at Pamela Skinner/Gwenna Howard Contemporary Art in Sacramento. I'll have 5 paintings there, one of them being Bondage. Here's the invite.

Another Painting Begging for Change

Earlier this past week, I decided to rethink this painting called Gift. It just didn't seem finished. This is the state that it's in at the moment. the original female figure that was in the face is now painted over and a brick pattern has been laid over the top. Ain't finished yet! more pics to come.

Here are some detail shots of the painting.
